The best looks from this year's Cannes Film Festival

Cannes Film Festival, image courtesy of mtnorton via FlickrBetween Kristen Stewart's psychic horror film Personal Shopper, and Nicolas Winding Refn's polarising look at the life of a model in The Neon Demon, this year's Cannes Film Festival had quite a few big fashion moments up on the screen. However, it's not the screen we're turning our eyes to today, but rather the red carpet. Yet again, this year’s Cannes Festival was a showcase of great fashion styles that were on par with the greatness of the films that were being shown. Here are some of our favourite outfits from Cannes 2016 (we’ve had to be very strict with ourselves, otherwise we’d be here all day!).

Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon consistently looked amazing every time she made an appearance during the festival, but it was her outfit during the premiere of Café Society that really wowed us. She looked fantastic in a well-fitting Saint Laurent suit. Susan Sarandon may be one of the only be people we know who doesn’t look obnoxious posing on the red carpet in sunglasses.

Julianne Moore

We have to applaud anyone who wears an outfit that can be described as snakes, and that’s exactly what Julianne Moore did at the premiere of Café Society. The dress, which was designed by Givenchy, resembled two cobras with their bodies entwining down into a short train, with sequins giving the dress an undeniable shimmer. We loved it.

Ryan Gosling

There were a lot of very sharply dressed men at Cannes, but Ryan Gosling definitely took home the prize, especially for his look at the premiere for The Nice Guys where he wore a white and navy Gucci suit. We salute you Mr Gosling, you did the men at Cannes proud.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor made an appearance at the Chopard Party in a sheer Ralph and Russo ball gown, and she looked absolutely stunning! The Bollywood actress looked like a Disney princess with sheer black satin gloves and a necklace that accentuated her neck. This was an outfit we’d love to try on for ourselves.

Julia Roberts

It’s not only Susan Sarandon that can pull off the androgynous look. Julia Roberts looked the absolute pinnacle of chicness in a pinstripe suit. It may not have been the most eye-catching, or jaw-dropping outfit worn at Cannes this year, but it was so understated and elegant we have to give it a thumbs up. In an event where everyone is trying to catch the cameraman’s eye, it’s nice to see someone wear something that looks comfortable, unassuming, and incredible at the same time.

Jourdan Dunn

That said, we still do have a huge soft spot for outfits that can’t help but draw attention, and Jourdan Dunn’s white gown was just that. That gown was adorned with blue flowers, and the gown fell in a way that made the model look more like an art installation rather than someone walking the red carpet.

Anna Kendrick

Our final top pick from Cannes 2016 is the hilarious Anna Kendrick, who looked like a classic Hollywood star in a simple, but beautiful canary yellow ball gown, which was followed by a medium length train. It’s lucky that Anna Kendrick took inspiration from old Hollywood, or we would have forgotten that this was a film event and not a fashion one!

If you want a taste of the red carpet lifestyle, our beautiful leather handbags are sure to make you feel like you’re the centre of attention at a major movie event! For more information about any of our products, don’t hesitate to contact us, or pop into our store in Abergavenny.
