4 features that every handbag should have

Robot, image courtesy of uberculture via FlickrAre you fed up of your phone constantly running out of battery? Those days could soon be a thing of the past now that Ivanka Trump has designed a handbag that is able to charge your phone while you're on the move! This invention fits perfectly with the trend of handbag designers incorporating technology into their designs and products. In this week’s blog we have decided to take a “what if?” approach and imagine the features we’d love all handbags to have in the (hopefully near) future, regardless of how impossible or impractical they may be to achieve.

Snack compartment

Snacking is one of life’s greatest pleasures, and we always have something rolling around in our handbag in case we get a bit peckish during the day, but what would be ideal is a way to compartmentalise our snacks. A tiny refrigerated pocket for snacks and drinks that need to be kept cool would be a perfect addition to the handbag of anyone who enjoys having something to munch on during the day. Of course, if you’re more of a fan of dried snacks then this probably won’t be as useful to you – but who would say no to some cold water straight from your bag on a hot summer day?

Headphone untangler

HeadphonesHow many minutes each day do you spend untangling headphones that have become inexplicably entwined while just laying at the bottom of your handbag? The answer is probably too many! Automatically tangling headphones are a bugbear we all have to live with, but what if that wasn’t the case? What if each handbag came with a small spool, or two prongs, around which you could wrap your headphones to keep them in place all day? This innovation is the thing of dreams.

Do we really need to explain this one? Data charges are extortionate, and there’s nothing worse than not being able to get 4G, or even 3G, when you need it most; that’s why each handbag should come with a Wi-Fi hub, to allow you to connect to the Internet whenever you want.

Whatever power the TARDIS has

TardisThe TARDIS from Doctor Who and Mary Poppins’ handbag have one thing in common: they’re both bigger on the inside than they look on the outside, and whether this is down to science fiction or magic, it is something that needs to be brought to the real world! The potential applications for unlimited handbag space are almost uncountable. Until the day this technology becomes more than pure fantasy, oversized handbags will have to suffice - not that we’re complaining.

What handbags do have

Until these innovations become a reality (fingers crossed!), we’ll have to make do with the admittedly simpler, but still fantastic, ideas that handbag makers currently employ to make life more convenient. From pen and mobile phone pockets to removable straps which allow you to turn your shoulder bag into a handbag, even the simplest of changes can have an elegant and useful impact on your day-to-day life.

Are there any features that you’d love to see every handbag have, no matter how unlikely? We’d love to hear your ideas in the comments!
