Celebrating 25 years of iconic designs by Lulu Guinness

Lulu Guinness shopper bag on FioreAs Lulu Guinness celebrates her 25th year in business, here at Fiore we've been thinking about what it is that makes her designs so popular. Is it the monochrome prints, the bright patent leather material, or those iconic red lips? It could be any one of these reasons, or many more, but whichever you choose it's clear that since the business was founded in 1989, Lulu Guinness has produced unique and beautiful designs that the fashion community continues to love and covet – a fact proven by the induction of her first cult bag, The Florist Basket produced in 1993, into the V&A's 'Fifty Years of Fashion' exhibition earlier this year.

Pushing the boundaries of fashion and technology

One of the many reasons we love Lulu Guinness is for her innovative designs. She has embraced the idea of using 3D printing for her Perspex lip purse, and has also teamed up with Autographer, a hands-free camera technology brand, to create the world’s first wearable camera that comes complete with 8GB of storage – that’s up to 16,000 photos!

Lulu is celebrating her silver anniversary in the business by continuing to expand her brand with the kind of innovative designs that have made her handbags and accessories so iconic, and by creating a mirrored lips clutch specifically for the milestone. The bag pays homage to the motif she is known for and is doubly functional, being both a bag and a mirror. It just goes to show that Lulu Guinness is certainly no stranger to the merging of the fashion and technology worlds, and continues to impress us further by using technology to launch her Autumn/Winter 2014 campaign with a video pre-loaded on a tablet to create a “virtual press day in a box”, complete with champagne and popcorn, which was sent to over 60 magazine editors.

London Fashion Week 2014

Lulu’s contribution to the fashion world has been recognised with several awards for her designs, including a lifetime achievement and the honour of being awarded an OBE in 2006. This season, Lulu Guinness has also been asked to design the official Vodafone London Fashion Weekend tote bag for the event that runs from 18th-21st September at Somerset House and celebrates the talent and diversity of the British fashion industry. Whilst that particular bag is only available to those attending the event, don’t worry because we have an exciting range of Lulu Guinness bags in our stores, like this Abstract London Tote Bag that offers an equally-as-stylish alternative to the official Fashion Weekend design, and still incorporates those bright red lips!
