Cannes Film Festival 2014 - handbags of the red carpet

This year, the Cannes Film Festival takes place from the 14th - 25th May with the main premieres held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, a venue specially constructed for the annual festival. The Cannes Film Festival was founded in 1946 and over the years it has become recognised as one of the most prestigious and publicised film festivals in the world.

The festival reviews cinema from around the world and is an important showcase for people in the film industry, as it gives them the chance to get both critical and commercial exposure. The festival's finale is an awards ceremony, where the ultimate prize is the Palme d'Or Award for Best Film.

The Box clutch triumphs at the 67th Cannes Film Festival

Fiore love when the Cannes Film Festival comes around as it’s another date in the fashion calendar where we can enjoy stunning outfits and accessories on the red carpet. So far at this year’s Cannes Festival a clear theme for handbags on the red carpet has been that of the box clutch. Many stars have chosen to enhance their elegant, stand out gowns with a simple box clutch, which is recognisable by its hard box like structure made from solid materials such as plastics, metals and mirrored fabrics.

Some of our favourite box clutches at this year’s Cannes Film Festival were showcased by stars of the silver screen; Hilary Swank (seen in the image above) and Lupita Nyong’o. Hilary accompanied her gorgeous white satin Atelier Versace gown with sapphire Chopard jewellery and a white box clutch with gold trim, creating a flawless outfit. Lupita chose a gorgeous mirrored clutch in a gunmetal shade which she wore with a shimmered blue structured prom style dress by Calvin Klein, accessorised with cream sandals. Similar mirrored clutches were worn by Julianne Moore and Hanneli Mustaparta, showing that it really is a trend to watch out for!

Some other gorgeous clutches which we’ve spotted during the film festival were worn by Naomi Watts, Julianne Moore and Jane Fonda, whose bags were designed with quilted, tortoise shell, studded or diamante effects to add dimension and texture to them.

Lulu Guinness Fifi clutch - cobalt and chalk

Get the look with the Lulu Guinness FiFi clutch

At Fiore we have the perfect clutch to help you recreate the Cannes Film Festival look: the FiFi clutch by Lulu Guinness. The FiFi clutch comes in four different designs, the first of which being a nautical cobalt and chalk striped clutch perfectly suited for a day by the French Riviera. The beach-ready look of this cute clutch is enhanced by Lulu Guinness’ signature bright red lips clasp, made with a red enamel in-lay. The inside of the bag is completed with a striking red lining and a silver logo plaque on the inside pocket.

Lulu Guinness FiFi clutch - monochromeIf you like the cobalt and chalk FiFi clutch then you’re bound to love a similar version in monochrome with horizontal stripes and a gold lip shaped clasp. Both bags come with a detachable shoulder chain, in silver for the blue and white, and in gold for the monochrome bag.

Lulu Guinness FiFi clutch - black patentWe loved the mirrored effect seen in the bag worn by Lupita Nyong’o and think that the Lulu GuinnessFiFi clutch in black patent leather perfectly recreates the look as it gives a high-shine reflective appearance.

Lulu Guinness FiFi clutch - textured redIf you’re looking for a box clutch which has a more textured look, then Lulu Guinness’ FiFi clutch comes in two designs which use an all-over quilted lips embroidery worked into the patent leather of the bag. Available in either black or red with the FiFi bag’s signature red lips clasp, both bags make fabulous accessories for a special occasion.
