What does 2014 hold for handbag fashion?

Every year, fashion experts place their bets, guessing what we'll be wearing a few months down the line. As ever the best guess comes from the catwalk, where the influential greats of couture parade their creations in front of fashion editors and high climbing socialites. With many style fanatics ready to clear out their wardrobes to make way for new styles and colours, it's important to get it right. We take a look at some of the predictions for handbag fashion in 2014.

The colours of 2014

It's always exciting to see the new palate of colours, forecast for the next season and this year is no different with an apparent focus on a mix of unconventional neutral tones. Leatrice Eiseman from the Pantone colour institute, defined this year's shades as a colourful equilibrium between soft pastels and vivid brights, such as a shade of placid blue thought to be popular this year, as an alternative neutral. By mimicking natural colours that are a constant background to our lives such as the sky, clothes including these tones can cleverly complement any other colour. Shades of Sand and violet add to the pastel predictions, whilst the vibrant brights on Pantone's forecast include reds, oranges and blues.

Predictions from the catwalk

Michael Kors ss14-13

There have been some stunning handbags on the catwalk this month as designers showcase their collection for the New Year. Mulberry sent a striking orange handbag down the catwalk this Winter, alongside a gorgeous matching jumpsuit, perfect for summer evenings. The handbag followed the classic Mulberry design but with a vibrant colour similar to cayenne; a colour Pantone have predicted to be popular.

Prada's latest collection shone, with every model on the catwalk carrying a beautiful Prada handbag. The range of colourful, chic leather bags, looked wonderful, accompanying Prada's ensemble of heavy coats with exciting prints and embellishments. The collection of small square handbags covered a range of textures and colours from a snakeskin effect in energetic yellow, to classic black leather, providing an insight into the variety of options available in the coming year.

Michael Kors incorporated a large rustic clutch in his show, seen to the right. Using tones similar to Pantone's sand and hemlock, it looks like Michael Kors is embracing neutral tones for his bags this season. Other simplistic yet stylish designs were seen in photos from Alexander Wang's latest offering. The futuristic white textured clutch was a personal favourite. What do you think?

Versace, Valentino and Chanel have all presented small over the shoulder and clutch style satchels in pastels and neons. The bags resembles our own collection of Zatchels and Yoshi bags, available in a selection of pale and rich colours.

We can’t wait!

We are very excited to see what new creations the amazing designers whose bags we stock bring out this year. We are sure you’ll love them too and will soon have them added to your 2014 wish list.
